I am so glad you found me!

My name is Eva-Mari Thomas. I provide therapy services for couples and individuals, helping people to deal with stress, depression, and anxiety. I work with both children and adults.

My primary therapy method is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I also hold certifications in Emotionally Focused Therapy for both couples and for individuals (EFT & EFIT), Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for both families and for teens, and Motivational Interviewing (MI).


I was born and raised in Sweden, but I lived, studied, and worked in the United States for 16 years. While there, I earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work with an emphasis on children and families. Since moving back to Sweden, I have earned an additional bachelor’s degree in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I am certified as a social worker and have also earned certifications in and worked with coaching, supervision, and mediation.

In addition to my work within both the public and private school systems here in Stockholm, I have been on the advisory board for The International Journal of School Social Work since 2010.

I am a member of the American Psychology Association (APA). 


What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of therapy designed to focus on and work with your current difficulties and situation while still taking your specific situation and background into consideration.

Thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interrelated and influence each other. Looking at how they are linked together may help to explain much about how we feel and enable us to learn to take active measures to change a difficult situation.

In CBT, we focus on the interaction between the individual and their surroundings, here and now. It is also characteristic that while still looking at the causes of a situation, we are more interested in “how can we understand this and what can we do about it?” We are interested in how our behavior is influenced by our thoughts and vice versa. This does not mean that we ignore the past. Instead, we try to gain an understanding of our past, how it can still affect us in the present, and how best to deal with it both now and in the future.
